Vanguard Archery Club rules in brief are set out below and may be added to as the club evolves. These rules interpret or supplement the Archery GB rules and are intended to help club members to shoot safely and with consideration to other archers. The Filed Captain or GB Archery Instructor has the final word when safety is a concern.

  1. No food or drink allowed in the sports hall. (area outside, past reception can be used)

 

  1. All shooting will be controlled by the Field Captain who will signal with ‘Safe to shoot’ and ‘Safe to collect’. By use of a whistle, 1 x whistle to shoot 3 x whistles to collect.

 

  1. No Shooting will commence until the signal ‘Safe to shoot’ is given. As per rule 2.

 

  1. At no time should a person shall move forward from the shooting line towards the targets until the signal ‘Safe to collect’ is given.

 

  1. Anyone present where archery is taking place should become aware that shooting should be stopped for safety reasons, you must call ‘FAST’. This call means that all shooting will stop immediately. On hearing this call, all archers must immediately stop shooting, returning all un-shot arrows to the quiver.

 

  1. Archers may not draw their bow, with or without an arrow, except when standing at the shooting line. If an arrow is used, the archer shall aim toward the targets but only when the ‘Safe to shoot’ signal is given by the Field Captain rule 2.

 

  1. All archers will shoot from a common shooting line, with the targets positioned at distances required. 10 Meters for Have-A-Go, 18 Meters for Beginners Course and experienced archers. Change of distance will be controlled by the Field Captain by moving the targets. Archers should assist with any change of distance.

 

  1. All archers and visitors to remain behind the waiting line, unless shooting, once an archer has shot, they must again return to the waiting line. All equipment should be kept net and tidy behind the waiting line

 

  1. No more than four archers should shoot at a single target boss. Unless instructed to by the Field Captain, if all targets are full, archers should shoot in details.

 

  1. An archer should shoot no more than three arrows per end, unless they are shooting a scoring round i.e. Worcester five arrows.

 

  1. All junior members (aged 16 and under) may only shoot if accompanied by a responsible adult, parent or guardian. As with any archer, juniors are expected to behave safely, responsibly and courteously whilst at the club.

 

  1. Bow strength, max poundage for indoor #40lb subject to type of bow class, equipment checks, demo safe usage. Final decision of Field Captain/GB Archery Instructor.
